If you have attended one of the Dual Enrollment Information meetings that has been offered at SCHS, you know that there are three colleges which SCHS students can dual enroll- Athens Tech, Georgia Military College (GMC) and Georgia State University. You will also remember that students wanting to dual enroll with GMC have to take an Accuplacer as a placement exam.
GMC will be at Social Circle High School on March 5th to give the Accuplacer to students who wish to dual enroll with them. This will prevent a drive to Madison to take this test! If you would like to take this exam, you must register by clicking the link below. Because of space, we will try to limit the number of test takers to 30, so do not wait to register.

Reconciliation Day is March 8th- Clean Up Missing Work
Zeros in the grade book absolutely obliterate a student's average in a class. Each semester, the school has established a Reconciliation Day where students are given a dead line to make up missing work and retake tests to improve grades from the last nine weeks. March 8th is our Reconciliation Day for the third nine weeks. Opportunity to make up these zeros ends on the 8th and we will move forward into the final stretch of the school year. This is being done as a final courtesy to students to prevent summer school or not graduating.
Please encourage your student to get these things done. Check Infinite Campus to stay on top of this.

Growth Comes from Trying, Not Necessarily in Winning
Registration for 2019-2020 classes will begin in the next few weeks. Many students and parents will start contemplating course planning for next year. Whether it it s a current ninth grader who is looking to get in all of the "required" courses, along with some fun ones too, OR you are a senior who is trying to expand the amount of rigor taken to better prepare for the tough stuff that is coming as a freshman in college, all are having to calculate success-to-failure ratios.
Success-to-failure ratio is that essential question that we all ask when we are standing on the edge of the high dive board. "Is this going to work out ok if I jump, or am I going to end up with the mother of all cherry-bellies when I rotate into a full belly flop?" In short, if I do something scary, will things work out? Will I fail? Will I succeed? One thing is for sure, I WILL grow!
Here is a great article from Rick Clark, Georgia Tech Admissions Director, that addresses these issues. If you do not follow his blog, you are missing out on some great wisdom.
Success Isn't Guaranteed, Try Anyway!

Last Dual Enrollment Meeting
Parents and students who want to Dual Enroll next (and did not attend the December 13th or the February 5th information meeting) need to make plans to attend the final information meeting on Thursday, February 28th at 6 pm in the Media Center at Social Circle High School.
Because of the complexity of this great opportunity for students, attending one of the information sessions is essential. After this 45 minute meeting, parents and students will better understand the hoops that must be jumped through to have this opportunity.
