Seniors and Class Ranks

Just want to update everyone on where we are with naming honor grads, top ten and Val./Sal.  Because this is something that we do not take lightly and want to verify total accuracy, we will begin the process of having students look at their transcript to see if there are any errors.  Because Dual Enrollment is so popular and all of those grades are hand entered, we value a second set of eyes (your senior) looking at things to make sure that, when appropriate, the extra ten points were added to Dual Enrollment class and AP classes where the AP exam was taken.  We will be visiting the American Government classrooms to have seniors look over the transcript on Friday, the 26th.

***If your senior is not going to be in one of Ms. Tontodonati's he or she will need to come by Mr. Kulp's office to verify the transcript.  For Dual Enrollment students who are in Mr. Kulp's advisement, he is planning a mandatory meeting on February 2nd that will address the transcript verification AND the capstone project (definitely a hot topic).

AP Test Registration

Students taking an AP exam this May have a down payment deadline looming.  $20 down payment is due by February 1st.

Payments may be made on line at https://user.totalregistration.net/AP/112765

Award Letter Reminder

Several weeks after a parent and student completes the FAFSA, a letter will come in the mail from the college (s) that you stated on the FAFSA that you were interested in attending.  This letter is called an "Award Letter."  This letter tells you a couple of things:

  1. Expected Family Contribution (EFC)- Roughly, this is the Federal Government and the college saying "We think you can afford to pay this much."  This amount does not include student loans that are being offered through the financial aid offer.  These folks consider loans to be a part of the aid package.  EFC is your responsibility after that has been taken out.
  2. Financial Aid Breakdown- This how much money that the Federal Government and the college are going to give to go towards educational expenses (Stafford Loans- both subsidized and unsubsidized, Pell Grant funding, any money from the college).

It Is Time to Register for Classes for the 2018-19 School Year

Social Circle students will be gearing up to make class decisions for next school year.  At Social Circle, we like to make this a two week process where students and parents have time to think about classes, ask questions and make solid decisions about these year-long classes for the next year.  In order to help with that, we will be hosting juniors, sophomores and freshmen AND their parents to come to the Registration Night that will be held on February 1st, starting at 6 pm

A Breakdown of Events for Feb. 1st

In addition to this event, your student has already been receiving help in class meetings, through advisement and through a COOL new website that Ms. Taylor put together for students, teachers and parents to use when planning out high school.  It is linked off of the school website under the label of "Registration."  For convenience, here is a link:

Please take time to use the resources we are making available to help with these big decisions.

Parents: Please Complete This Survey

The Georgia Parent Survey is also modeled after the student survey and contains 24 questions. Parents may complete the survey using their personal computer, smartphone or tablet. For parents that do not have access to the Internet, school administrators should consider scheduling dates and times to allow parents to complete the Georgia Parent Survey at school. All parents should be encouraged to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey because the data will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. The Georgia Parent Survey is also available in Spanish. Parents may select the Spanish version within thesurvey. Results from the Georgia Parent Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online. The Georgia Parent Survey link is posted below.
