As a parent, do everything that you can to help your student grieve a loss.  Unresolved grief can make your student's adult years more difficult.  It is better to deal with these difficulties now than it is to put them off.  Maybe this program can help.

Can We Afford this College?

Parents of high school students find themselves asking this very important question in April of the senior year as they are trying to find a way to make their child's college dreams come true.    Sometimes this may mean taking out "Parent Plus" loans, which is an indicator that this college is too expensive for your family.  The decisions that we make today will follow us long into the future with student loan debt.  The goal is to minimize the cinder block that student debt can be as we swim across the lake of life.

Here is a great tool to do some calculations that will help you determine if a particular college is out of your price range.  It will factor in much more that the published sticker price of school: financial aid will also be factored in.

Learn How to Evaluate Financial Fit with Financial Aid 101

Wouldn't it be great if we were able to ask these questions earlier in the high school career?  This tool works for any student/parent who has potential schools on their radar for the future even into the freshman year.  IT IS NEVER TO EARLY TO START PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE!

Common Application for Social Circle Scholarships

For many years in Social Circle, dedicated individuals and organizations have sought to recognize and reward outstanding seniors who are moving forward with their educational plans beyond high school.  This year, those same individuals have expressed an interest in awarding scholarships to Social Circle High School seniors from the Class of 2018.

The following scholarships will be awarded to Social Circle High School students exclusively:
  • Athens First Radford Scholarship for $500
  • Dally Scholarship for $1000 (renewable for four years)
  • Deadwyler Scholarship for $500
  • Pinnacle Bank for $500
  • Rotary Scholarships, four for $300 each
  • Walton County Foundation for an undisclosed amount
  • Walton County Retired Educators Association for $250
Please know that other scholarships may contact us after this announcement is published, so this list may grow.

This year, we have formulated a common application for students to complete which will put them in the running for each of the scholarships listed above!  One application for seven (or more) scholarships; that makes things easy!

Only students who complete the attached scholarship application will be in the running for these scholarships.  The odds for this scholarship competition are the best around, so do not neglect to take care of this one by April 13th.  If you have questions, email Mr. Kulp at mike.kulp@socialcircleschools.org.
