Auburn University High School Summer Camps

Greetings from the College of Architecture, Design and Construction at Auburn University! We hope your spring semester is going well! We are so excited to announce the registration for our 2022 High School Summer Camps is open. We have five different summer camps this year for our prospective high school students; Architecture Camp, Building Construction Camp, Industrial Design Workshop on campus, Industrial Design Workshop at our Mobile Futures Studio and our Construction Management Summer Academy for Young Women (CMSAYW).

 

The CMSAYW is a one week scholarship program, and every student selected to attend will receive a full scholarship for the camp. This camp will be a great camp for any young women who are considering the world of Architecture, Construction, Civil Engineering or Environmental Design. We are accepting applications through April 1st.

 

If you have any students who might be interested in our camps, please feel free to share this information! We are also happy to answer any questions your students may have. Don’t hesitate to have them reach out to us or the Auburn Youth Programs’ Office directly. All our camps are taught by our amazing faculty and give students the opportunity to experience a CADC major for the week! Registration is available now and for students who would be interested in scholarships, the Summer Camp scholarship application is open until April 1st.

The Joy of Coding

Professor Raj Rao in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Michigan is writing to tell you about an online course (The Joy of Coding) they created especially for high school students to learn coding in ways that are better structured and better supported than other resources (including MOOCs) available online. Here is a note for why we felt this is important and essential.

Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Michigan is excited to be offering an online course that high school students can participate in this summer, The Joy Of Coding, which takes place June 22, 2022 - August 3, 2022. 

This is our second year offering this courseThe Joy of Codingonline course has been specially created for anyone who wants to experience first-hand the power and thrill of coding computers to do amazing things. Created with high school students in mind, it is a great way for anyone to step into the wondrous world of coding. You’ll learn by doing and experience how coding powers apps such as Snapchat and TikTok. 

No prior coding experience is required! Anyone who wants to learn is welcome. Students who are able to commit 4-6 hours a week and chip away at the material daily will succeed.

Students will: 

  • Have weekly asynchronous coding lectures/assignments using an interactive textbook
  • Learn to code at their own pace with support from Michigan ECE faculty and students 
    • No scheduled lectures 
  • Have our commitment to help you get unstuck when learning to code 
    • Everyone gets stuck somewhere, at some point!
  • Receive a certificate of accomplishment to bolster your college applications

Georgia Tech STEM Event

 

Greetings from Georgia Tech!

You and your students are invited to join us for 600 Points of Light, a virtual event we are hosting in collaboration with the Georgia Tech Black Alumni Association.

During this live virtual event we will host a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) Panel made up of some of our amazing alumni, who will share their stories about how Tech helped them achieve their goals.

Admission staff will also be available to give college application tips and share more about the campus culture at Georgia Tech.

Georgia School Board Association

GSBA's Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is now accepting applications for 2022, and we would love for our students to apply. 

The YAC is a student leadership program formed by GSBA to give high school students the opportunity to provide meaningful input to school board members and aid them in their decision-making. In addition, YAC members will have the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills and contribute to their community by affecting positive change for students across Georgia.

The first round of the application process is open until March 27th, 2022. More information on expectations, meeting dates, eligibility and more can be found in the  initial information document. The application link is available on our website.

Selected students will have the opportunity to represent your district at the 2022 Annual Conference in Atlanta!

NATURAL RESOURCES CONSERVATION WORKSHOP (NRCW)

Available to Georgia’s Rising 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. This workshop focuses on the value, protection, and conservation of Georgia’s wildlife, forestry, soil, and water resources, including conservation in Georgia’s mining industry. The workshop provides students with a taste of college life while delivering valuable insight into careers through their counselors and instructors. For more information, please follow this link.

  • Dates of NRCW are June 27-July 2, 2021
  • Camp takes place at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, GA
  • Students scoring well on the workshop exam may be awarded a college scholarship. A limited number of scholarships are awarded based on exam scores and specific scholarship guidelines and criteria. GACD in partnership with Georgia's Conservation Districts, will be awarding two $6,500 scholarships to the top scoring students at camp.
  • Camp features field trips, classroom instruction, and recreational activities.

DUE TO COVID RESTRICTIONS, WORKSHOP ATTENDANCE THIS YEAR IS REDUCED TO 80 STUDENTS.

21CL offers four exclusive summer leadership institutes, expanding your leadership skills and exposing you to various businesses and industries throughout the state of Georgia. Earthcare: The Leadership Challenge for the 21st Century is a week-long environment-focused leadership development program held on a college campus in which 21CL students are exposed to various environmental and leadership challenges through interactive workshops, tours, and round-table sessions with Georgia Power business leaders.

WarnerMedia Institute for Future Leaders

WarnerMedia Institute for Future Leaders is a week-long media-related program focused on leadership development in which 21CL students are exposed to the future of the media industry through interactive workshops, behind-the-scenes insights, round-table sessions, team-building and diversity exercises, and professional development opportunities.

Healthcare/IT Institute

Healthcare/IT Institute (HII) is a week-long healthcare-focused leadership development program held on a college campus in which 21CL students are exposed to various career aspects of the healthcare industry through interactive workshops, corporate tours, and round-table sessions with business leaders in the field of healthcare and technology.

The Quest for Excellence Awards give additional resources and opportunities to highly qualified students with a range of specialized backgrounds and interests. Awards vary by category and are designed to help students become stronger applicants to the nation's best colleges.
