Tomorrow is your last Chance to Attend a Dual Enrollment Meeting

DUAL ENROLLMENT IS A COMPLICATED ANIMAL WITH A LOT OF OPPORTUNITIES TO GET HURT WHEN NOT HANDLED CORRECTLY.
Michael Kulp

Dual Enrollment is a great option for families, but there are many things that students and parents need to know going in.

There will be the first of three meetings offered to students AND parents providing information about dual enrollment classes next year on Thursday, December 12th at 6 pm in the Cafeteria.  Attendance at one of the three meetings is mandatory for any student and parent of a dual enrollment wannabe student.  The first meeting will have representatives from the three main colleges that we dual enroll with- Athens Technical College, Georgia Military College and Georgia State University Perimeter.
They will share what requirements a student must have in order to get into their dual enrollment programs, so this meeting will provide the biggest punch!

If you cannot make this meeting, Mr. Kulp will provide a Saturday morning meeting for students and for parents who work late shifts at their jobs and cannot make an evening meeting on Saturday, January 25th at 9 am.

Last, Mr. Kulp will offer one more evening meeting on Thursday, January 30th at 5 pm in the Cafeteria for anyone who has not been able to attend one of the first two meetings.

Again, attendance at one of these meetings is mandatory for anyone who will seek to dual enroll in 2020-21!

Senior Capstone Information- Save the Dates for Senior Meeting Notification

Senior meetings the week of Jan 13-17

Senior meeting for all Dual Enrollment seniors Friday, Jan. 17th

In an effort to provide all students with an education that leads to being college and career ready, students will participate in a college or career- related capstone project. Reflecting on who they are and what they want to do, the Capstone project provides students with the opportunity to explore a career of personal or professional interest and address the latest trends or issues through focused study and applied research.

At Social Circle High School, completing the Senior Capstone Project is required for ALL students who want the privilege of participating in 1) Senior Week activities during the Spring 2020 semester and 2) Social Circle High School’s graduation ceremony.

Mr. Armstrong will be meeting with all seniors in early January to explain the Capstone Project in detail, but he wanted to give parents a short overview.  The meetings will take place during Redskin Period for senior Redskin groups.  In addition, we will have a meeting on a Friday, January 17th for all Dual Enrollment students who are not on campus during Redskin Period.  This year we will be asking the students to first decide what they would like to do after graduation:
-attend a 2 year or 4 year school
-attend a technical school
-join the military
-join the workforce

After they choose their post high school path, the students will complete assignments to help prepare them for their next step.  The goal is to help students better prepare for life after high school and create a short portfolio to take with them going forward.

All capstone projects must be completed by Friday, March 13th.  During the month of January/February when the current 9th - 11th graders are working on registration for next school year, seniors will have time to complete their capstone project.  For those seniors who are off campus, all documents can be uploaded to a google classroom.

More specific details will be shared at the senior meetings listed at the top of this announcement.

Paid Summer Internship through UGA

The Young Scholars Program (YSP) is a premier six-week internship program for Georgia’s high school juniors and seniors interested in exploring Science, Technology, and Math through research in agricultural, food and environmental sciences. The Young Scholars Program has three goals: (1) expose Georgia’s high school students to research and careers in agricultural sciences (2) recruit students to UGA’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences; and (3) increase exposure and cultivate interests in agricultural sciences among students from underrepresented minority populations. We welcome all students to apply.
