Georgia Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council

Georgia Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council Application (2021-22)

Submission Details

The Student Advisory Council will meet with State School Superintendent Richard Woods several times during the 2021-22 school year to discuss how decisions made at the state level are affecting students throughout Georgia.

DEADLINE & INSTRUCTIONS
Applications must be submitted by September 1, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. Late applications will not be accepted. Selected students will be contacted via email. All students may visit gadoe.org/studentadvisory on September 17, 2021 to see whether they have been accepted. Please note that we typically receive hundreds more applications than we are able to accept, and not being selected for the Student Advisory Council does not mean the student’s application was not strong.

ELIGIBLE STUDENTS
All students in grades 10-12 are eligible to apply. We are not accepting applications from any other grade levels this year. Two students per RESA district will be selected to serve on the Student Advisory Council. Please note that we are seeking a range of students with unique perspectives. Questions such as GPA are included to ensure we are receiving feedback from all students, not just those with the highest grades. There is no required GPA to participate in the Student Advisory Council.

MEETINGS
The 2021-2022 Student Advisory Council will meet four times, on the following dates. The mode for each meeting (in-person or virtual) is noted. All in-person meetings will take place at the Georgia Department of Education’s offices in Downtown Atlanta. For Student Advisory Council members who live 50+ miles away from GaDOE’s offices, overnight lodging will be provided.

October 21, 2021 – IN PERSON
December 1 OR 2, 2021 – VIRTUAL (students will be assigned a meeting date upon selection)
